Hapkido is the combination of two Korean Martial Arts - Yool Sool which comes from the Japanese art known as Daito-Ryu Aiki-Jutsu and Tae Kyon which is an ancient Korean Kicking Skill.
Hapkido translates to: The art of Coordinating or Harmonizing Power.
HAP means coordination or harmony
KI means the essence of power
DO means the Way or the Art
Hapkido is a realistic and useful form of self protection that includes a wide range of strikes, kicks, joint locks, pressure points, grappling and disarming techniques. The result is a practical, comprehensive Self Defense system that is enjoyable to learn and produces effective results in realistic situations.
Hapkido's dynamic concepts are based on scientific principles of anatomy and biokinetics as well as psychology and strategy. It is suitable for men and women of all ages because physical strength and athletic abilities are not a requirement. The emphasis is on redirecting the assailant's aggression and power back towards them with little effort and minimum force on your part.
